Introducing Maysie Lecciones
The New Doors team is united by the love of a good story, well told.
As our business hit the 6-month mark with a growing pool of content and strategic experience, it became clear that providing strong visual solutions in-house would be key to providing a fully rounded service.
Enter Maysie Lecciones - our Visual Design Specialist, recently appointed with an Associate role at New Doors, reflecting her diligence in project management and creative direction.
With diverse expertise in print and digital design, marketing, illustration, photography and branding, Maysie is a multidisciplinary designer with a passion for storytelling through images. The self-motivated creative joins us from a freelance position, where she developed characterful branding for small businesses and start-ups in the lifestyle, food and beverage industry.
“Many of my freelance clients were ethical businesses, full of empathy - social enterprises or companies that want to help change the world for the better,” says Maysie. “That was important to me. I want to work with people who put meaning into what they do.”
As an observant and resourceful photographer, Maysie has an uncanny knack for capturing a subject’s personality in situ, events as they unfold, or the unseen details which make a space unique. With her design cap on, she creates successful, thoughtful visual languages for business across varied sectors - skills which she now applies to our New Doors clientele. Officially beginning with us last month, Maysie contributes her keen eye for detail to her role as Visual Design Specialist, crafting branding and marketing materials, as well as publication design.
“What I like about New Doors is that I’m asked, ‘What are your thoughts? What do you think would be best for this kind of project?’ It’s a much more collaborative culture,” says Maysie. “And since Alicia has a graphic design background too, when we started working together, we were able to speak the same language.”
A passionate advocate for Filipino food and culture, Maysie is one of six members of The Entree.Pinays, a volunteer collective of Filipinas shining a light on their cuisine and heritage. In her rare free time between creative projects, Maysie flexes her green thumb in the newly built garden beds at the West Footscray home she shares with her partner. She likes to start her mornings with a steaming cup of fragrant homemade chai, freshly brewed with whole spices.
“Coming into New Doors, I saw that there was an emphasis in building real rapport with clients, which aligned with how I approach my freelance work,” says Maysie. “It means better outcomes for them, because we gain a true understanding of their story.”
